Vulkana, originally built in 1957, was designed for seasonal fishing. It has a rich history of fishing for herring during the summer and laying drift nets for cod and pollock in the winter. The vessel even ventured into whale hunting around Spitzbergen during the spring. However, in 2009, the ship underwent a significant transformation. Architect Sami Rintala meticulously redesigned the vessel, preserving its traditional shape. Where once the ship stored 60 tons of cod, it now houses a Japanese-inspired Zen Lounge and a Turkish hammam.
